The Paulines Institute of Communication in Asia (PICA) celebrated its 10th year of foundation last April 27, 2012 at the Daughters of St. Paul, Pasay City. \u00a0The celebration was highlighted with a thanksgiving Mass presided by Fr. Apolinar\u00a0 (Boy) Castor, SSP. Significance of the celebration includes: Pica 10th anni final<\/a> thanksgiving to God for guiding PICA the past ten years, acknowledgement of every student who supports MLE and looking back at the development of PICA \u00a0for greater appreciation of MLE. The celebration also\u00a0 traced \u00a0the historical context of PICA which recalls the late Sr. Lucina Sarmiento, FSP\u00a0 who pioneered MLE \u00a0in the congregation of the Daughters of St. Paul with her proposed thesis \u00a0on “Child of Media\u201d \u00a0and \u00a0\u201cMedia Baby\u201d\u00a0 at the \u00a0Ateneo de Manila University. \u00a0The Provincial Chapter of 1989 \u00a0already \u00a0discussed the possibility of\u00a0 a systematized MLE\u00a0 for \u00a0the future of media apostolate. Similarly, the Provincial government of1998 felt the pulse of PICA\u2019s coming birth upon the completion of in-depth communication studies of\u00a0 two FSP\u2019s namely; Sr. Consolata Manding, fsp who obtained her Doctorate Degree\u00a0 in Communication at the University of the Philippines (UP), and Sr. Clothilde de las Llagas, fsp with her Master in Media Literacy Education\u00a0 in the United States of America.\u00a0 Eventually, PICA was launched in April, 2002 and emerged as vehicle for Media Literacy Education Graduate and Training Course, and with Mobile MLE.<\/p>\n
