PROGRAM: “Media Awareness” Session
AUDIENCE: Elementary & High School Students
DURATION: Two to Three hours

RATIONALE
For the school year 2008-2009, PICA wants to continue giving exclusive attention to developing the media literacy skills of children and parents. This is in conjunction with the theme underlined by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI in his message on World Communications Day ”Children and the Media: A Challenge for Education”.
OBJECTIVES
1.To sharpen the students’ awareness of the place which MEDIA occupy in their lives.
2.To help deepen the students’ perception and understanding of the power and impact of media languages.
3.To guide the students in the evaluation of the various media outputs especially the TV programs and movies.

Expected Counterpart:
1.Board and lodging for two facilitators (if location is outside of Metro Manila.

Program: “Media Awareness”
Audience: Parents/Guardians
Duration: Three hours
Program Description: A three-hour session with parents/Guardians (during card-giving days) – which will deepen their perception and understanding of media’s impact, thus, empower them to educate their children towards critical autonomy.
Objectives:
1.To provide parents/guardians with the basic understanding of how the media can effect behavioral changes in children.
2.To offer practical guidelines for critical awareness and evaluation of media images in the light of Christian values.
Expected Outcome: Given the opportunity to gain more knowledge and skills on how to become more critical, creative and responsible media consumers, they could very well serve as our partners in the formation and media education of today’s children.
