Radio Veritas Broadcasters Empowered

Twenty-eight Radio Veritas Broadcasters and personnel were empowered by an in-depth six-day Media Literacy Education Seminar held at Lay Formation Center, San Carlos Complex, Makati City last August 16, 17, 23, 24, 30 and 31. The seminar was intended to provide the  participants with tools and skills in reading, analyzing and evaluating different forms of media texts under the light of the Church Media Documents. The resource speaker was Sr. Consolata Manding, FSP, PHD, Directress of the Paulines Institute of Communications in Asia (PICA) Foundation Inc.

The speaker gave lectures and facilitated workshops. Highlighted topics were on Culture of Communication, Media Literacy Education on Television and Film, In-depth study of Church Social Communication Documents and Designing Media Advocacy. The participants had practicum viewing TV drama and movie for analysis on its moral value or disvalue.

When asked about what they learned from the seminar, all the participants said that they were happy of the seminar because they eventually learned skills and tools in reading, analyzing and evaluating media products in line with the Church perspective. The participants also said that this learning inspired, energized and empowered them in going ahead in the exercise of their media ministry particularly in the cause for Media Advocacy.  Media Literacy Education  (MLE) was very enriching and study of the Church Media Documents was very enlightening and challenging, this feedback was cited in the participants’ written evaluation as well.

Under the guidance of Radio Veritas president Fr. Anton Pascual, the participants also shared that they felt very much the presence of God in this seminar animating them to strain forward in pursuing the vision-mission of Radio Veritas as a “Radio for Truth and Evangelization.” The seminar ended with the giving of MLE certificates of completion to the participants.
