Walking the Word in Antique

San Remigio is a mountainous town in the province of Antique. Consisting of 45 barangays, its people rely on commercial and permanent agricultural crops for livelihood. To this town did the Postulants, Novices and their respective formators, together with the Pasay School Diffusers and Regional Vocation Directress for Visayas go for the Bible Mission last May 19- June 1, 2013. Of the 45 barangays, they visited only 10, as arranged by the parish priest of San Ficente Ferrer Parish, Fr. Sergio Maniba.

Notably, most of the families visited in San Remegio belong to various denominations and sects such as Iglesia Filipina Independiente,  Assembly of God and United Christian Churches in the Philippines. Despite this reality, the Word of God has been generously offered and openly received in their midst.

On the other hand, Catholic families visited during the two-week Bible Mission were introduced to a deeper understanding of the Bible and an experience of Lectio Divina through a Bible Seminar. It was held at the St. Vincent Ferrer Parish in San Remegio on June 1 by Srs. Yolanda Dionisio and Melissa Mancita.

Fr. Jose Tubianosa, who invited the sisters to carry out the apostolate in that area, requested for a Bible Seminar to be given to a chapel and parish in San Jose, Antique. These was responded with much generosity by Srs. Melba Grace Lobaton, FSP and Maria Jose Lorilla, FSP on May 24 and 25 respectively.

Also, Sunday Bookdisplays were arranged randomly in the nearby parishes. A talk on the Vocation Discernment has been conducted as well to the parish youth group by the RVD of Visayas.

The entire activity was imbued by the group’s theme: “ Buhi nga pagtuo, nasandig sa Pulong sang Dios” which is translated as “A living faith is founded on the Word of God”.
