We, the Pauline Sisters (Daughters of Saint Paul) went to Binondo, Manila for the “Biblia sa Bawat Pamilya Project”. We visited the poor families in San Miguel Road and the indigent families residing near the Coast Guard Base Farola who were victims of the recent floods last Sunday, September 15. The residents shared that the flood waters was neck-deep and they lost almost everything. They were very grateful they are still alive.
At the time of our visitation we did not expect the day to be stormy. Despite the downpour we went ahead for the Bible mission. Thanks to the kindness of Commander Jude Thaddeus Besinga, the Chaplain of the Philippine Coast Guard, who allowed us to conduct the Bible Seminar inside the church. Most of the people who came were wet because of the heavy rainfall. We told them to change into dry clothes but they said, “It would take us an hour to walk back home. It is OK if we are rain soaked as long as we can attend the Bible Seminar.”
After the Bible Seminar we gave Bibles to 234 families who were present. Father Ariel blessed the Bibles and the families as we sang together our concluding hymn. Surprisingly the PCG Chaplain and priests at Farola gave free snacks to all who attended the Bible Seminar. The people jubilantly thanked us and they went back home happy bringing with them their new Bible. They promised to pray and read the Bible 5 – 10 minutes daily. God bless them and all families!
“The family is the first environment of our sanctification. The family is the first society instituted by God, sanctified by Jesus Christ. In the family there must be religious instruction, good mutual example, constant charity, an ambience of piety, assiduous labor.”
