Vocation and Bible Mission in Romblon

From August 24 to 29, Sr.Amelyne Paglinawan and Sr. Maricar Andamon visited Romblon to  promote the Pauline vocation and mission. This island province is composed of 20 islands and islets. The Sisters conducted  Vocation Search-in sessions and posted vocation posters in the different parishes in the Diocese of Romblon’s two main islands – Tablas and Romblon .  They saw how rich Romblon is in mineral resources, particularly first class marbles. But the majority of its inhabitants are poor because the majority are fisher folk and marginalized farmers. Mining for marbles has not improved the lot of Romblomanons, as the native inhabitants are called.

The Sisters of Lipa visited this Diocese twelve years ago, and it was high time that they return for another mission. So, on September 5-10, Sr. Maricar went back to Romblom with Sr. Yolanda Dionisio, to follow up the young ladies that they met during their first visit, and to carry out a Bible Mission.  In collaboration with Msgr. Ernie Fetalino, the administrator of the Diocese of Romblon and many priests were very supportive of our mission. Sr. Maricar was given the time to introduce our congregation to the youth who attended the “fun walk” activity organized by San Lorenzo Seminary. She also conducted Life Direction Seminar in St. Vincent Ferrer Parish, Ondiongan.  Sr. Yolanda facilitated Bible Seminars to the Lay Ministers in St. Vincent Ferrer Parish, Odiongan and to the Catechists in St. Anthony Parish, Ferrol.

The kind and simple Romblomanons  responded positively to the mission and were very happy and grateful for this opportunity to understand better the Word of God and to deepen their faith. May the Word of God take root in the hearts especially of the young and may they answer the call of God to serve and to love.
