Bible Mission: Theotokos Shrine, Carcar

The community of Cebu continues with the Bible Animation activities in connection with the FSP 75th Jubilee Project Biblia sa Bawat Pamilya in their mission territory. On March 8, 2013, they visited the Theotokos Shrine in Perrelos, Carcar, Cebu, one of the pilgrimage churches in Cebu under the supervision of Fr. John Rona. Erected after the visit of the Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Family to the Philippines in 1992, the shrine was built to hold the Perpetual Dawn Rosary and encourage more people to pray. During construction, a farmer found a 15th Century Byzantine religious relic buried in the ground. Miraculous occurrences have been reported in the shrine which has attracted thousands of pilgrims here and abroad.

It was Sr. Dominic Roña who took the initiative that the Word of God be shared to the volunteers and construction workers of the Shrine. Sr. Victorina Quimpan and Sr. Ling Gutierrez spoke to them about the importance of the Word of God in one’s life, taught them how to read the Bible based of the Church’s liturgical calendar, and shared with them some Gospel reflections. They were able to give a Cebuano Bible to each of the thirty participants. In order that they will continue to grow in faith and in the knowledge of God’s word, Sr. Dominic will do the monthly follow up.
