Every year, the May Flower devotion, Flores de Mayo, is held at the Fatima Chapel in Cagayan de Oro City. This year, the children were given catechetical instructions using the modules of Flores de Mayo: A Decade a Day, Catechism in May, a Pauline publication written by Fr. Mario Antonio Baclig, SDB. Almost 200 catechists from the different parishes of the Archdiocese of Cagayan De Oro attended the seminar/workshop given by the author in April.
More than 50 children learned the catechism from volunteer catechists and through the help of the members of the Association of Pauline Cooperators became familiar with the basic prayers and songs to our Lady. The children in their innocence and love for the Blessed Mother were encouraged to create their own flowers, instead of getting flowers from the neighbor’s garden (often without permission) to offer every afternoon.
On the last day of the flower offering, two men were noticed to be with the young devotees. They said that when they were kids, they attended the same Flores de Mayo at the Fatima chapel. Now as fathers, they bring their children every day to the afternoon catechism and floral offering, so that they will not only learn the Faith but also come to love the Blessed Mother.
