SINGAPORE: FSP Centenary Concert Takes Off

The voices of the Daughters of St. Paul from the east and west soared high in Singapore to celebrate the centennial of the congregation through concert performances. Joining the Singaporean FSPs – Srs. Wendy, Jocelyn, Karen, and Theresa – were Srs. Tracey Dougas and Fay Josephine Pele from the US, Sr. Roselyn Sophy from Kenya, and Srs. Carmel Galula and Ma. Antonieta Molina from the Philippines. Their Heavenly Voices Praise Concerts were held on November 13 at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Succor, and on November 14 at the Church of the Risen Christ in which its choir also lent their voices as back up vocals.

An upbeat African song, “Jambo Bwana” (Hello Friend) opened their show which was received warmly with claps and cheers from the audience. The Sisters moved on to sing and dance to the beat of “Humayo’t Ihayag” (Go and Proclaim), a popular Filipino praise song. Also featured in their performances were a variety of songs which included the Latin chant, “Scio Cui Credidi” (I Know Him);  “Warmth, ”  a Chinese song rendered by Sr Jocelyn and Carmelite Fr Edward; and “Minoi Minoi” (Move Move) a Samoan folk song which had the audience clapping and dancing to its rhythm.

Among the guest performers were Fr. Edward Lim, Fr. Valerian Cheong and Redemptorist Fr. Terence Wee, who together rendered two songs – Let Your Living Water Flow and Go Light Your World, with CICM priest Fr. KK joining them on their first night performance. The St. Damien Youth Choir from the Blessed Sacrament Church also sang with the concert performers in two songs.

During the intermission, the audience got to know more about the Daughter of St. Paul as they watched a centennial video on Blessed James Alberione and Venerable Mother Thecla Merlo.

Since the show also served as a benefit concert for the FSP- Singapore delegation who are raising funds to build a new convent, those who watched it received a free copy of the book, Holy Gospels,  as a centennial gift and as a token of gratitude for their support to the Sisters.
