Misa de Gallo during Pandemic

“Tuloy pa rin ang Pasko” was the famous slogan during the Christmas Season 2020. It signified that Covid-19 pandemic cannot hinder the Christians from celebrating the birth of our Savior. Christmas Celebration must go on despite the strict protocols and guidelines to be followed.

For the past three years, the Daughters of St. Paul have been holding the nine-day Christmas Novena masses known as Simbang Gabi or Misa de Gallo. Since no outsiders are allowed yet to join in our Eucharistic Celebration, the Commission on Spirituality spearheaded the live-stream masses in collaboration with the Liturgist for December, AV Sector and the Paulines Choir. Benefactors, family members and friends of the Sisters were invited to offer intentions and follow the Masses online. The Paulines choir sang Christmas Carols before and after the Mass not only to entertain but also to express gratitude for all the blessings received by the congregation from the Lord and generous benefactors.

Indeed even the pandemic cannot chain good works willed by God. Despite the difficulties encountered during the preparation and actual live-streaming of masses, the Good news about the birth of Jesus was brought into cyberspace with the grace of God. – Sr. Lourdes Ranara, FSP
