The Philippine Association of Communication Educators (PACE) in partnership with ABS-CBN Corporation spearheaded the 10th Pinoy Media Congress held at St. Mary’s College, Quezon City on February 18-19, 2016 with the theme “Media: Empowering and Inspiring a Nation.“ The theme highlighted the role of media in providing opportunities and in creating possibilities to help people, communities and the country to aspire and achieve bigger and better means in life.
This year’s Congress especially delved on the forthcoming election in May 2016 and showcased to the participants what the network is doing to help the country develop an enlightened electorate.
Mr. Eugenio Lopez III, Chairman of the Board of ABS-CBN, said that the network has been providing the Filipino people, here and abroad, with the most comprehensive, in-depth, and up-to-the-minute news coverage that starts way before the election, so as to arm the voters with the knowledge they need to make that important decision on Election day.
He added that the network hopes to empower the Filipino electorate with relevant content, by reporting on the situation of our country, the candidates’ qualifications and platforms, as well as their take on various issues. The network, according to him, wants to inspire people to become critical and vigilant voters through campaign like “Boto Mo, Ipatrol Mo” and this election season’s “Halalan 2016: Ipanalo ang Pamilyang Pilipino.”
Among the topics that were discussed on the first day of the congress include two sessions on “Halalan 2016: Ipanalo ang Pamilyang Pilipino,” “When Local TV Fare becomes a Global Craze” and “Bringing Back the Golden Age of Cinema.” The second day tackled “Promoting Pinoy Excellence and Heroism through Sports,” “Making Filipino’s Online Presence Count,” “Starting an Advocacy that can Change the World,” “Who are listening and watching” and “Kapamilya entertainment All In: Creating Content that Nurtures Filipino Family Values.”
The resource speakers were ABS-CBN experts in their respective field. Each presentation was followed by open forum, where a lively and enlightening interaction between the students and the speakers transpired. Around 900 participants composed of communication students and teachers, members of (PACE) joined this year’s 10th PMC.
Being a member of PACE, Paulines Institute of Communication in Asia (PICA) sent Sisters Mayan, Deedee and Lines as representatives.
Pinoy Media Congress which started as a gathering of communication students and teachers has evolved into an annual event that fosters discussion, debate and dialogue with ABS-CBN media practitioners. PMC today become an eagerly anticipated event by the country’s communication schools and scholars.
