Alegria, Cebu Bible Mission

On December 2, 2012, Sr Victorina Quimpan, Sr Ling Gutierrez and Postulant Chay Fernandez went for another Bible mission in Alegria, Cebu. Located southwest of Cebu, it is a three-hour-journey from the convent if there is no traffic. The Divine Mercy Ecclesial Community’s Chapel in Alegria, Cebu served as the venue for the animation.

The beneficiaries of this project were the farmers from the parishes of Sto. Tomas De Villanueva (Matutinao, Badian, Cebu), St. Francis Xavier (Alegria, Cebu) and San Jose (Sangi, Alegria, Cebu). The participants are very poor but responsive and enthusiastic. Most of them live in the mountain and had to walk 14 km just to attend the Bible animation. Some of them had to leave their homes and walk as early as 5:00 AM in order to reach the venue before 12 noon. They arrived with their packed lunch and before the animation started, the participants prayed the rosary.

Sr. Vitto gave the Bible animation by sharing the basic information about the bible, how to read the Bible and reflection about the readings of the day. Sr. Ling and Post. Chay assited Sr. Vitto in teaching the participants how to read the Bible, who hunger for the Word of God.

The Pauline Sisters were helped by the Sisters of Divine Mercy together with their lay cooperators. Since the FSPs need to visit other parishes for the Bible mission and cannot continue the formation of these parishioners, the Sisters of the Divine Mercy will continue this biblical mission by conducting weekly Bible sharing with them. As a conclusion, Sr. Vitto gave a vocation animation to the participants and the parents eagerly asked for vocation brochures for their children.
