The Inayawan dumpsite in Pardo, Cebu is a 16-hectare sanitary landfill where all the garbage in Cebu is dumped. Deadline for its closure was October 1, 2012, but no alternative site for garbage disposal or plan has been approved. Hence the garbage collected in the city still end up in the landfill.
Sr Victorina Quimpan and Sr Ling Gutierrez, in collaboration with the Hijas de Jesus and their teachers, visited the families living near the dumpsite on November 25, 2012. The participants, mostly mothers, some of them carrying their children, showed great enthusiasm and joy in learning to read and pray the Bible.
Copies of the Cebuano Bible were given to each participant who promised to read the Bible every day. The Hijas de Jesus Sisters will give a monthly follow-up by conducting Bible sharing with them.
