Daughters of Saint Paul

A Marian Tribute

On October 7, 2013, Feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, the Daughters of St. Paul, Pauline Cooperators , catechists, and staff of the Diocesan Prison Ministry conducted a Bible Mission at Albay District Jail in Daraga, province of Albay.

Inspired by Mary, through whom the “Word was made flesh,” these missionaries visited the forty seven-inmates (male and female) at the district jail. Prior to this activity, they were being given some catechism lessons by committed lay church leaders. In conjunction with the “Prison Awareness Month,” Sr. Susan Penaflor gave instructions in Tagalog, about the proper use of the Bible and presented to them the Biblia sa Bawat Pamilya Project .

The prisoners were very participative and enthusiastic. Some raised questions and one of them gladly exclaimed during the open forum, “Indeed, this was meant for our salvation, Sister!”

The celebration of the Holy Eucharist followed, presided over by Rev. Fr. Chandra Navis, SdC. In his homily, he highlighted the importance of the mission of the Daughters of St. Paul, as apostles of social communications and how blessed the inmates are to be the recipients of their Diamond Jubilee special mission.

Like their father and founder St. Paul, who became a  prisoner for the sake of Christ, their great apostolic heart thought of reaching out to those who cannot afford and have a copy of this precious book. Fr. Chandra reminded them that they also need to pray and thank the Lord for the many generous people, who sponsored the distribution of the “An Banal na Biblia” which are now in their hands.
