The Daughters of St. Paul had the opportunity to share the Word of God in Sto. Nino Parish in the island of Alumar, Getafe, Bohol. On September 12, 2013, they left early from Cebu on a small motor boat and docked on Alumar island. The parishioners, hungry for the Word of God, have been patiently waiting for three hours at the Fatima Chapel. In their eagerness to avail the Scriptures, some nursing mothers came with their babies during the animation.
In this island the holy sacrifice of the Mass is celebrated only once a month. On Sundays when there is no mass they have the “Kasaolongan sa Pulong” or “Celebration of the Word. They faithfully come for their weekly Bible sharing even if they have only one Bible available for the whole group.
The people in this island live in austerity and simplicity, with no electricity. A few of them cultivate seaweeds for a living. They do not have any health facilities like a health center. So when the residents get sick they have to be transported to the town proper of Getafe by small motor boat.
The Paulines are grateful to Roldan Salabao, BEC leader who facilitated the Bible mission, and Msgr. Ruben Labajo who suggested to the sisters of Cebu to extend the Biblia sa Bawat Pamilya project to the island of Alumar. Fr. Chito Lozada, parish priest expressed his gratitude for the thirty one (31) copies of the Holy Bible received by the families.
May the Word of God, which can never be chained, be for the people of Alumar light, comfort and grace.
