More than 8,200 young men and women from different countries came together for three days of study, prayer, reflection and worship for the Singles for Christ (SFC) 20th International Convention on February 15-17, 2013 at the World Trade Center in Manila. The theme for the convention was, Obey and Witness, with the words of Our Lady as scripture anchor: “Do whatever He tells you.” Jn 2:5.
The organizers invited the Daughters of St Paul to assist them and offered the venue for the exhibit of Pauline books and materials. It was also an opportune time to witness to the young men and women an aspect of the Pauline religious life and mission.
Here’s a sneak peek at what happened on the first day.
The Singles for Christ is one of the family ministries of Couples for Christ (CFC). Founded to cater to the needs of single men and women from 21 to 40 years of age, it offers pastoral care to those who are called for marriage, but also includes those who may be considering either single blessedness or religious vocation as a state of life.
The 3-day convention was replete with inspiring talks and testimonies from 3 bishops and the cardinal of Manila, Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, Couples for Christ leaders and Singles for Christ missionaries. It was also a chance for them to participate at Holy Mass and receive the sacrament of reconciliation, spend time in quiet prayer and discernment, and also to worship and praise the Lord in an energetic and lively way. Many of those present have been coming every year to deepen and strengthen their faith and commitment to Jesus Christ.
We pray that from this group of young men and women many will respond to the invitation of the Lord of the harvest to work in his vineyard as Pauline consecrated men and women.
