World Communications Day Celebration in the Diocese of Legazpi

The Daughters of St, Paul in coordination with the Diocese of Legazpi organized the celebration of the 44th World Communications Day on Ascension Sunday, May 16, 2010 during the Holy Eucharist presided by Most Rev. Joel Baylon, D.D, the Bishop of the Diocese of Albay. With the theme , “Priest and Pastoral Ministry in a Digital World: New Media at the Service of the Word” the event was held in conjunction with the Year of the Priests.

After reading the message of Pope Benedict XVI to the assembly, Bishop Baylon gave the advantages and disadvantages of the media. Foremost of which is its responsibility towards the good of the community. He emphasized on the importance of the different systems of communication supported by the Church. Bishop Baylon said: “The new communciaitons technology ha sproclaimed to the people especially the youths’ aspirations, messages and opinions on moral, political an social issues.”

Before his final blessing he called all the media practitioners including the Daughters of St. Paul to the front and presented them to the people. He blessed them and asked the entire community to continue praying for them.

Prior to the celebration, Mr. Daniel Patrick Garcia, Kapisanan ng mga Broadcaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) chairman, Albay Chapter and all media practitioners met with Most Rev. Joel Baylon, D.D

World Communications Day in Naga

World Communications Sunday, the Community of Naga went for a parish media display at St. Anthony de Padua Parish in Iriga City, an hour trip from Naga City. Rev. Msgr. Luis Jonie V. Aguirre, the parish priest, was very accommodating. He understood well the Pauline mission of spreading the Good News, through Social Communications. He invited the Sisters to come often to his parish.

The response of the parishioners was very encouraging! Many people were already aware of Pauline presence in Naga City.

World Communications Day in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia

The Sisters celebrated the World Communicaions Day during the Eucharistic celebration on May 15 at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Kota Kinabalu Sabah, presided by Fr. Johnny Raju. Sr. Mary Sualeh, the Superior of the community offered the Catholic Sabah, a Catholic Newsletter of the diocese during the presentation of gifts.

World Communications Day In Papua New Guinea

On the 16th of May 2010, the Daughters of st. Paul of Papua New Guinea celebrated the 44th World Communications Day in St. Joseph Parish in collaboration with the parish priest, Fr. Tom, a Passionist Father.

During the Liturgy, Sr. Virgie Gayon explained the theme of the message of the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI:Priest and Pastoral Ministry in a Digital World: New Media at the Service of the Word. Mini posters on the theme were posted at the doors of the Church.

The event was aired over Radio Maria, the Catholic radio in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Sr. Anna Marie with the Lay mission partners (LMPs) held bookdisplay outsid the church. Since it was announced during the mass, many people flocked to the bookdisplay and bought books and religious articles for their families. The people commented that they were happy to see the Sisters organizing a book display in the parish for the first time.  They wish that the Sisters will do it again in the future.
