Bible Mission in Pio Duran, Albay

In line with the Diamond Jubilee Project, Sr. Meden, Sr. Susan and Postulant Jenny set out for a Bible Mission last August 19, 2013 at Pio Duran District Jail in Albay. Mrs. Adory Cabredo and Mrs. Paciencia Ibanez, Pauline Cooperators also joined. This activity was in coordination with the Diocesan Prison Ministry (Madam Beth and Nats), Fr. Chandra Nevis, SC (Servants of Charity) and Sr. Pricilla Berchmans, SCJM (Sister Servants of Jesus and Mary). The head of the Commission on Social Concern in the Parish of Our Lady of Salvation in this town, Mrs. Florida Llanera, completed the group.

Pio Duran is a two-hour drive from Legazpi City. Upon arrival, they were warmly welcomed by the personnel of the district jail. Sr. Meden enthusiastically introduced them to the inmates and motivated them about the visit. The first part of our mission consists on sharing the topic: “Biblia Bilang Pahayag ng Diyos,” which was given by Sr. Susan. She emphasized that the great love of God, shown in Jesus Christ, was the main reason why the Holy Bible was written. Moreover, she stressed that our salvation was the end goal of this most precious book.  Adding more color to the topic, Sr. Meden and Post. Jenny rendered a song for them titled, “Ang Espiritu ng Panginoon.” During few minutes of health break, they took time to talk with the inmates, assuring them of prayers.

The second part was the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Fr. Chandra stressed that God is full of compassion to all of us. He assured them that reading the Word of God will help them in their desire for freedom and renewal.

The celebration was concluded with the blessing and distribution of the bibles, An Banal na Biblia, to the inmates. Some of the recipients were moved to tears, as the sisters handed them the bible. They were very happy and enthusiastic to open and read it. A satisfied and joyful smile was painted on their faces. After our distribution, a heartfelt gratitude resounded in their hearts and on their lips, as they chorused, “THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO ALL OF YOU!”
