Daughters of Saint Paul

Bible Mission in Naga City, Cebu

Last August 22, Sr. Ling Gutierrez met with Fr. Melchor L. Urgel, parish priest of St. Francis of Assisi in Naga City, Cebu regarding the Bible animation through house-to-house visits. The chosen barangay was Naalad through the collaboration of Mrs. Gelda P. Angel.

The mission was realized last August 29-31 in line with the celebration of the 75th foundation anniversary of the Daughters of St Paul in the Philippines. Sr. Ling Gutierrez and Sr. Gemma Lucero stayed for three days in barangay Naalad. But instead of going from one house to another as was previously planned, the purok coordinators under the leadership of Mrs. Gelda Angel, gathered the families in one of the houses. There was also an instance that they had the Bible animation and catechism under the tree near the river. The mission started at 9 AM until 12 noon and continued in the afternoon from 2-4 PM. Around 60 bibles were distributed to families.

The families were very welcoming and collaborative. The sisters observed their willingness and enthusiasm to learn and renew their faith. There was an open forum for more clarification about the Word of God and the Catholic doctrine. In addition to the activity, Sr. Ling Gutierrez was invited to give a talk about “Prayer” in connection with the Word of God in an ecumenical gathering. The two sisters also joined the group sharing with the other denominations. It was a very touching and enriching experience to see the Word of God welcomed in many homes.
