Youth Leaders and Program Coordinators of Youth from different Catholic Schools, Dioceses and National Youth Organization in the Philippines participated in a webinar forum on Media and Information Literacy (MIL) held last April 10 and 17, 2021. Organized by Paulines Institute of Communication in Asia (PICA), almost 100 participants registered in the said webinar, 43% Youth Leaders and 57% Program Coordinators of Youth.
Post evaluation by participants claimed great learning from the topics: Impact of Social Media on Mental Health during the Pandemic given by a Psychiarist Dr. Joan Mae Perez-Rifareal; That’s the Spirit! – Enriching Young Persons’ Tiktok, K-Pop, and other Social Media Experiences by Fr. Norman Pena, SSP, and Digital Identities in Social Media by University Professor Joeven Castro.
This is the third webinar forum that PICA has organized, the first and second were last October and December 2020 for Heads and Principals of Catholic Schools from different regions of the country: Metro Manila, parts of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
The series of webinar forums were organized in collaboration with a Steering Team that we created at the start of pandemic last year 2020. The Team with ten members is composed of PICA Students who have taken most if not all Graduate Media Literacy Education (MLE) Modules. They are teachers and administrators from different schools and some active pastoral workers. We look forward to organize more webinar forums for different dioceses in the country. – Sr. Consolata Manding
